Woman in bathrobe holding invigorating toner bottle for skincare routine

A daily facial toner should do more than remove residue — it should actively prepare the skin for the products that follow. This formula combines five hydrolats with Organic Cucumber Glycerol Extract and Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) to create a toner that tones, hydrates, brightens, and calms in a single step. Lightweight, fragrant, and genuinely refreshing — it is the kind of product that makes the skincare routine feel worth doing.

Why Five Hydrolats

Orange Blossom Hydrolat (47%) forms the aromatic backbone of the toner — softly floral, skin-brightening, and deeply pleasant to apply. Lavender Hydrolat (10%) adds its well-known calming and balancing properties. Witch Hazel Hydrolat (10%) brings gentle astringency that tightens pores and controls excess sebum without stripping moisture. Chamomile Hydrolat (10%) soothes reactive and sensitive skin, reducing redness and discomfort. Frankincense Hydrolat (10%)

Together, these five hydrolats create a layered botanical profile that no single hydrolat could achieve — calming, brightening, toning, and firming in one formula.

Cucumber Glycerol Extract (4%) adds the humectant and cooling dimension — drawing moisture into the skin while delivering the fresh, light finish that distinguishes this toner from heavier formulas. Its astringent properties complement the witch hazel, and its anti-redness properties reinforce the chamomile.

Vitamin B3 / Niacinamide (4%) is the formula's primary brightening and pore-refining active. At 4% it sits within the range associated with visible improvement in skin tone, reduced pore appearance, and better sebum regulation with consistent use.

Polysorbate 20 (3%) solubilises the essential oils into the water-based formula. Preservative 12 (1%) ensures microbial stability. The 1% essential oil slot is left open for personalisation — lavender, frankincense, neroli, and rose are all well-suited to this formula's botanical character.

The Recipe

Invigorating Five-Hydrolat Toner
Yield: 100g — scale as needed

Stage 1 (room temperature)
Orange Blossom Hydrolat — 47g
Lavender Hydrolat — 10g
Witch Hazel Hydrolat — 10g
Chamomile Hydrolat — 10g
Frankincense Hydrolat — 10g
Cucumber Glycerol Extract — 4g
Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) — 4g

Stage 2 (room temperature)
Polysorbate 20 — 3g
Preservative 12 — 1g
Essential Oils of your choice — 1g
Total: 100g

Method:

Combine all Stage 1 ingredients and stir until the Vitamin B3 powder is fully dissolved — this may take a minute or two of gentle stirring. Mix the Stage 2 ingredients together separately until the essential oils have fully solubilised into the Polysorbate 20. Pour Stage 2 slowly into Stage 1 while stirring. Transfer to a bottle and label.

How to Use It

Apply to clean skin morning and evening using a cotton pad or by pressing gently into the skin with clean hands. Follow with serum and moisturiser. The toner can also be used as a mid-day facial mist for a quick refresh — decant into a spray bottle for this purpose.
